Short Track race ~ [shôrt trak räs]
an off-road bike race similar to a criterium where riders do multiple laps on a short 3-5 min course. Very fast and fun!

THANK YOU, PORTLAND SHORT TRACK RACERS!

Thanks to everyone who came out to Short Track this summer to race, to cheer and/or to volunteer. We hope you had a great time and are ready for more fun races. Also a big thanks to our series sponsors and OBRA for helping us make it all happen!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS for our next race!

The 6th annual Kruger's Crossing Cyclocross Classic which will take place on Sunday November 20 at Kruger's Farm on Sauvie Island. As usual, it will be a great way to celebrate the end of another epic cross season in style at a very family-friendly venue. See you there!

News & Updates

08/03 - Results of Monday's final night of racing and the Final Series Standings have been posted, as well as the "unofficial" results of the Ultra Short Track Team Relay race.
Two podium corrections: Jaime Menagh (sorella Forte) is the series winner in the Cat 3 Women 19+ category and Zach Vergillo (Camas Bike and Sports) is the series winner in the Cat 3 Men 15-18 category. Congratulations to both Jaime and Zach and our apologies for not catching the calculation error prior to the Cat 3 awards ceremony.

08/02 - What a great last night of short track racing we had yesterday! The weather was about perfect, a record number of 430+ racers, a sold-out ultra short track team relay (25 teams of 10 racers each!), and the course rocked. Oregon Velo and short track racers Ian Mastenbrook and Victor Duong all posted a bunch of cool action shots of last night's racing. Ian even made a real sweet video of the team relay madness with a very fitting soundtrack. Enjoy!

07/28 - All 25 team slots for next Monday's Ultra Short Track Team Relay race have been filled!
On Monday evening, at 8:15pm (right after the pro/cat 1 race has wrapped up) the following teams will battle it out to decide who will become the 2011 Ultra Short Track Team Relay champs: Sorella Forte (all-women team), Cyclepath Racing, Cyclepath/The Dark Side, Green Submarine Records, Camas Bikes 1, Camas Bikes 2, The Spokesmen, Chris King/Ira Ryan Cycles, Les Volontaires (the one-and-only short track volunteer team), Portland Velo, Les Femmes de S&M (all-women team), Showers Pass, Filth & Fury, Hammer Velo, West End Bikes/Specialized, Therapeutic Associates, Portobello Bicycle Racing, Tireless Velo, Super-Gründel-Relax, bicycleattorney.com, Oregon Bike Shop, Yakima Bike Vigilantes, Team S&M, Ruckus Test Team, and Artisan Family Racing/Sprout Cycles. It's on!

07/27 - Check out the very nice collection of actions shots taken throughout the series by Portland Velo racer Victor Duong!

07/21 - We're in the home stretch of the series with just two more races left, so time to get ready for the Series Grand Finale and Ultra Short Track Team Relay! This year, we are turning the team relay race into a mini-fundraiser for our friends and MTB advocates at Northwest Trail Alliance, by introducing a race fee of $30 per team and donating all proceeds to NWTA. The 25 available slots for the team relay race will be awarded on a first-come first-serve basis.

07/18 - Lest we forget, the winners of last week's grand prizes: Brent Misfeldt is our first Moots Gran Prix winner (winning a state-of-the-art Moots Cinch Ti seatpost) and Marie Major and Amy Ziehnert - whose names were randomly drawn among all of last week's women racers - are our "Queens of The Night", both winning a $50 Bike N Hike gift certificate!

07/14 - Another Monday, another wild night of Short Track racing! We received a lot of great feedback about last Monday's course and we'll do our best to keep it up (only waiting for the 90+ degree weather to kick in, so we can get the sprinklers going). Results of race # 5 have been posted and Cat 2 35-44 Men racer Jake Linford posted another great helmet cam video (featuring a full lap of his 6/27 race) on Vimeo. Enjoy!

07/06 - Thanks to everyone who came out to Skibowl last Sunday to race the 2nd edition of the Six Hours of Mt Hood. The weather and the course were perfect and it looks like everyone had a great time! Now back to Short Track... to get you all amp'ed up for the next four races, check out this cool helmet cam compilation David Rosen posted on YouTube.

06/30 - Four races down, four to go... and time for a mid-series break. Results of Monday's race # 4 and series standings after the first 4 races have been posted. We hope you all enjoyed the first part of the series and we're looking forward to seeing you on Sunday at the Six Hours of Mount Hood!

06/24 - The winners of last Monday's Summer Casual Race Outfit Contest are in! Check out the photo gallery with all our worthy contest winners and a bunch of equally casual contenders.

06/18 - Bring on the summer!! This Monday is summer solstice and the weather forecast calls for sunny skies and temps in the mid 70s. Just the perfect conditions to host our annual Summer Casual Race Outfit Contest!*

Leave the lycra at home and come race in your "Monday best" casual threads: oversized surf trunks, colorful skirts, double-rainbow tie dye tees, knitted socks,... anything goes! And we'll have cool prizes for the most authentic male and female "summer casual racer" in each race heat! Peace out, bruv...

06/16 - The 2nd edition of the Six Hours of Mount Hood is coming up in just two weeks and it's shaping up to be another fun one!

The course will be very similar to last year's (a varied, 7-mile loop that features plenty of fun, twisty singletrack trails and about 400' of elevation gain per lap), though we're moving the start/finish area to Skibowl's main lodge & parking area (just off Hwy 26).

06/14 - Wow, what a fun night that was! Yesterday, we counted 350 racers, the sun was out in force, the course rocked, and everyone seemed to have a blast! Results of Monday's race # 2 have been posted on OBRA and Oregon Velo posted a new batch of action shots. Like last week, medium-resolution photos of the Kiddie Race can be downloaded for free.

06/10 - Some important updates for the rest of the series:
1) Going forward, the Cat 3 race will start at 5:55pm instead of 6pm. This change will allow us to make sure that Cat 3 racers get at least 25' of racing in.
2) OBRA membership is required for all racers (except kiddie racers). Per the newly adopted OBRA rules, all riders who claim to be OBRA members will have to show proof of current membership at their first short track race of the season. If you can't provide proof (i.e. membership card, confirmation email), you will have to purchase a single-day license ($5).

06/09 - Finally!!! The all-new Hopworks Bike Bar (located on N Williams & Shaver) is open for business! And since HUB is our loyal title sponsor, Short Track racers will enjoy a very special deal throughout the series: flash your 2011 race plate and enjoy a pint of award-winning, local, organic beer for just 2 dollars!* Cheers... to knobbie tires and Hopworks beers!

* only on Monday nights at the HUB Bike Bar and limited to one pint per racer.

Tips for New Racers:

- Come out early: the course will be open for pre-riding at 4pm and registration opens at 4:30pm. We are also hosting free junior clinics (starting at 4:30pm) and novice women clinics (starting at 4pm).
- Fill out the online series waiver. This form only needs to be filled out once for the whole series, but we will need one completed for every racer (including juniors and kiddie racers).
- If you are not an OBRA member yet, please bring out a completed OBRA license form (annual | single-day).
- If you haven't pre-registered, make sure to bring the right amount of cash or a checkbook (all checks are payable to "Portland Racing"). We do NOT accept credit cards at the race.
- If you plan to upgrade or race a different category, make sure to get a new plate at registration.
